William "Bill" James was born October 12, 1924 to Jasper and Mary (Adragna) Frontiera, in Saginaw, Michigan. His parents had immigrated from Sicily to Saginaw where his father worked for General Motors. Bill was one of nine children.
Bill grew up in Saginaw and when World War II broke out, he joined the Navy. Bill was deployed to the Pacific where he saw action in the Philippines campaign. Bill would go on to enlist in the Navy three times and thus had the distinction of serving in three wars: World War II, Korea and Vietnam. In fact, being in the Navy brought him another bonus; he met his future wife when he recruited her for the women's Naval reserves. The two were married July 1954. They raised their children all over the country, finally coming back to Michigan when he retired from the Navy. Not one to sit still, Bill worked and eventually retired from Chrysler.
Bill was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War, the Knights of Columbus, Council 7200 and the Fleet Reserve Association. In retirement Bill enjoyed cooking. Food is love, he would tell everyone. He was also known for his jokes.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Patricia; his children: Bill (Sylvia), Jr., Jason (Bonnie), Fred (Trish) and Kathleen (Matt) Finger; his grandchildren: Patricia (Joe) Cosens, Billy (Lisa) Frontiera III, Bobby (Brooke) Frontiera, Pam (Kenny) Torrence, Renee (fiancé Rob Charlick) Frontiera, Rebecca (Matt) Ceo, Joshua and Shana Frontiera, Melissa and Matthew Krzeminski and his great-grandchildren, Lilly, Ethan, Gianna, Joey, Asher, Camden and his siblings, Jim and Pete Frontiera, Josie Stumpo and Jeanette (Zena) Bosco.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Bert, Mary Kiper, and Michael.
