Gaetano Rizzo was a hard worker who put family first. He worked two jobs in his native Sicily and at age 48, he moved his wife and six children to America for a better life. In Detroit he worked 25 years plus at Cadillac Plating Corporation. After retirement it was his garden where he worked.
Gaetano Rizzo was born May 10, 1926 in Capaci, Sicily, the youngest child of Benedetta (Enea) and Gaetano Rizzo. His father died before he was born. His mother never remarried but raised the three children on her own. Gaetano served in the Italian Army and then married Rosalia Fontana. They stayed in Capaci and began a family that grew to six children. Gaetano worked in a factory making concrete telephone poles and sold fruit on the side. In 1973 the family came to Detroit where Rosalia had family. His six children grew up, married and gave Gaetano the pleasure of 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Rosalia passed away April 8, 2013. Gaetano lived almost a year longer, passing away on March 26, 2014.
