Doug was a master carpenter, a natural teacher and above all, a beloved family man who left this world too soon. He passed away on September 8, 2014. He was 60 years old.

Born on a summer's day in 1954 in Grosse Pointe, Doug grew up in Detroit and attended Cass Technical High School. He learned carpentry from his grandfather and in his time, worked as a sign painter, cabinet-maker and eventually had his own business, Do-It-All Construction and D & S Robinson. For three years, Doug was a paraprofessional at Lincoln High School in Warren, in the building trades program. That assignment led to his dream job of teaching the program as a long-term substitute. Doug was also proud of completing 1,000 hours of CAD training where he was the top of his class.

Always making jokes, often laughing at himself, Doug was known for his incredible sense of humor. Doug had met his current wife Sherry when she hired him to do work at her house. He often said he was glad he did a good job because he wound up living there. His children and grandchildren especially delighted in being around him, watching his antics as he entertained them with silly words.

Camping and spending time in the outdoors were favorite pastimes. He would fish when circumstances allowed. He had a magnificent singing voice that he was not afraid to share. His remarkable talents also included his architectural drawings, hand-crafted furniture, wood carving and overall keen artistic eye.

Doug is survived by his wife, Sherry; his children, Duane (Amy) and Jon (Teresa) Robinson, Austin Drake; his stepchildren, Andrea Houle and Jeff (Tracy) Gagnon; his grandchildren, Noah, Nolan, Gabriella and Nathan Robinson, Angela, Melissa, David and Michelle Albers and Brandon and Brooke Gagnon. He was preceased by his brother Jim and half-brother, Bob, and leaves behind a multitude of step and half-brothers. He will especially missed by his cat, Tommy, an orange tabby who made Doug his own.
